Moves+ expands to Australia

OpenPlay wins the ActiveKIT (Knowledge, Innovation, Technology) Grant and launches Moves+ in Australia, with The University of Sydney and The University of Notre Dame as its first clients.

2023

Flow serves 54 million annual visitors

Flow expands further across eight clients and now handles bookings and memberships for 3.1m users, 54m annual visitors and over $270m+ in annual payments.

2022

Flow launches in 250+ GLL centres

Flow launches across GLL's full estate of 250+ sports and leisure sites with memberships, Point of Sale, Direct Debits, and online joining running independently for the first time.

2021

Flow pilots in three centres

Flow pilots for the first time across three GLL (Better) centres handling bookings, card payments, customer management, and access control, a major milestone for OpenPlay.

2020

Moves+ launch

OpenPlay launches Moves+, which ties in with the Covid pandemic wreaking havoc across the world. Further universities sign up to the product and we add additional third party trackers.

2019

Inception of Moves+

OpenPlay wins a competitive tender to build Moves+, a physical activity gamification and rewards app for university students and staff, working with a consortium of eight British universities to build and pilot this application.

2018

OpenPlay partners with GLL

OpenPlay starts working with GLL to build out a new enterprise leisure management system called Flow, completely under wraps, and secures financing to expand its development team.

2017

International launches across six countries

OpenPlay launches in the UAE with Dubai Sports World, Singapore with Singapore Sports Hub, and in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the USA.

2016

Funding round of £150k

OpenPlay raises a £150k seed round via friends, family, and angel investors to expand further into activities and memberships, and to increase its team size.

2015

Product extension into activities bookings

OpenPlay launches activities booking focusing on kids holiday camps, classes, and lessons. We increase our client profile further across schools and councils.

2014

Expansion across London

OpenPlay expands further in London primarily across facility clients including Brent Tennis courts, Greenwich, and various schools. OpenPlay increases its client profile working with its first university client, Kings College London.

2013

Official launch as OpenPlay

Matchtea Ltd is rebranded to OpenPlay. We add a technical co-founder Ian and launch our first online booking system (OP1), initially targeting tennis courts in London with a focus on Wandsworth and Dulwich in South London.

2011

Company inception

The company is founded by Sam Parton as Matchtea Ltd and launches an online marketplace for discovering sports facilities. This was designed to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics and to make it easier for people to get active.
